  • Online clinical center: the certified professionals at our clinical center will check the quality of the clinical data for every test conducted with the device and will verify and sign the diagnosis report abiding by the applicable laws. Is the Neocortex Digital device different from other devices I currently use in my practice?

Yes. The Neocortex Digital device is fully automated from the start of the test (when the patient is properly positioned) until the completed, validated and certified report is delivered to you. It measures dozens of eye and visual function parameters in one place with 30 times the accuracy of existing devices.

In addition to the many visual and other brain executive functions that it measures, the Neocortex Digital device is also an automated: phoropter; continued burst binocular refractometer; +/- 15º (symmetrical field) and +/- 30º (hemifield) campimeter; dynamic pupilometer; etc.

The device drives the patient’s attention through gamified interactions (gamified tests/videogames in true 3D), obtains and analyzes data, sends data to our online Clinical Center, which returns to you a thorough report.

Your personnel will be involved only with patient management (i.e., taking patient data and existing conditions) and with properly seating the patient at the Neocortex Digital device. Once the Neocortex Digital device is started, your personnel may step away to attend to other patients in parallel thus increasing patient throughput. The clinical report is delivered by Neocortex Digital soon after ending the patient session at the device, and your personnel will be able to convey these findings and recommendations to the patient.

How will Neocortex Digital improve the services I offer today?

The Neocortex Digital device provides new capabilities in the visual function domain, and through it, in the domains of multiple brain executive functions, expanding your offerings while increasing traffic to your traditional services.

  • The Neocortex Digital device conducts an extensive screening of the visual function, including measuring many visual parameters (i.e., spherical, cylindrical, and axis errors, tropia, phoria, static and dynamic accommodation, and vergence errors, eye dominance, amblyopia, central visual field, etc.), as well as implications of ophthalmic and neuro-ophthalmic issues on visual function (i.e., static and dynamic response of eye muscles, pupilometry, determination of PRLs – Preferred Retinal Locus, etc.), and neurologic issues (expressed through patient interactions with the videogame and oculomotricity).   • The automated test will take only about 12 minutes, which does not require your presence. Once the Neocortex Digital device is started, your personnel may step away to attend to other patients in parallel thus increasing patient throughput. Also, this test timing should help improve patient management (i.e., avoids wasting your time and/or helps uncover significant issues that might otherwise go unnoticed, etc.)

 

  • You will get online a full report and certified diagnoses soon after the test is completed. You can depend on that full report and diagnoses to back up your own evaluation, diagnoses, and treatment recommendations.

 

  • To refine your diagnosis, you will be able to conduct additional gamified tests on your patient at the Neocortex Digital device specific to your areas of interest (e.g., a more detailed central visual field or scotoma analyses, extent and behavior of fixation, saccade, or pursuit detail analyses, incomitant behavior, etc.).

 

  • You will be able to prescribe visual training to either improve visual dysfunctions or to normalize/optimize patient visual function prior to or after surgery (re-hab).

 

  • You may reach patients that you would normally not have access to because they are not aware of their visual state or issues. The Neocortex Digital device screens for some executive functions that are important to everyone (i.e., quality of the visual function, reading issues – brain processing beyond visual dysfunctions, etc.). Even if patients don’t realize they may have an issue, they would benefit from these screenings. Since visual function supports many higher-level brain executive functions (i.e., reading), which affects the quality of life and individual achievements, in most cases, you will be able to offer training for improvement, even to healthy patients, at the same Neocortex Digital device.

What does the Neocortex Digital device do and what services does it provide to my patients?

All services offered through the Neocortex Digital device are gamified, so that data are gathered while the patient visually interacts with a virtual true 3D environment. Services are tailored to individual patient needs through various selected videogames.

The services deployed at a professional clinic are exclusively those for which that site is certified.

Neocortex Digital Services include:

  • Screening
    • Takes about 12 minutes, gathers data on more than 2,000 fixations, and samples most of the parameters listed below.
  • Diagnoses
    • Focuses in detail on areas of patients’ needs with extended and more accurate sampling for a rigorous, validated diagnosis.
  • Training
    • Improves individual patient conditions that were identified through the Diagnoses services.
    • Its wide range addresses most of the functional parameters listed below.
  • Monitoring
    • Focuses in detail on measuring the progress of patients’ improvement or deterioration (i.e., degenerative conditions) with extended and more accurate sampling.

Additional videogames will be created and made available to already deployed devices, either as options for a single service (i.e., to best fit the patient’s age) or as services updates and new services that will address additional dysfunctions and pathologies.

How do I know this works? Where’s the evidence?

The Neocortex Digital device will reach the US market with full FDA certification.


There are ample bodies of research in the field of optometry, ophthalmology and neurology whose interpretation and results were utilized in the development of the Neocortex Digital device and services. Future clinical trials by independent Research Institutions will further validate the services provided by this device.

There are three main areas covered by Neocortex Digital services:

    1. Measuring visual function state –  Visual function state is evaluated and diagnosed by accurately measuring the patient’s oculomotricity in his/her interactions with a true 3D virtual environment, which is able to stimulate both vergence and accommodation by using very precise oculography and rapid autorefractometry.
    2. Measuring oculomotor alterations –  Oculomotor alterations may be induced by issues affecting either the visual function, the eye system, or some other brain areas. Regarding the eye system and other brain areas, Neocortex Digital provides a comprehensive view of the consequences of any issues.
    3. Behavioral and perceptive training will be supported with scientific evidence by the most active and advanced research teams, particularly in the USA.  Neocortex Digital will integrate this research into its development, and the outcomes will be deployed into this device.

Would my device and/or services be updated?

Yes. The Neocortex Digital Technical Center will remotely upload any software improvements to your device, most often without any support from your side.

Also, any new videogames for existing or new services that Neocortex Digital develops will be available at your site. You will be properly notified, and your personnel will be trained accordingly if need be.

You will have immediate access to the Neocortex Digital future technology through a new user agreement at the term of your prior agreement.

How will Neocortex Digital assure service continuity?

The Neocortex Digital device does not work in isolation (it is not a standalone device), but rather, it is networked with both the Neocortex Digital Clinical and Technical Centers. The system includes tools for continuous non-intrusive technical monitoring of your device. If there is a software issue, it will be verified and remotely resolved by deploying appropriate software commands or software updates. If there is a hardware issue, a maintenance process will be activated in order to correct it with the smallest possible inconvenience to you and your patients, and the minimum interruption of the Neocortex Digital services.

Do I need to buy and pay for the Neocortex Digital device up-front?

No. To minimize your capital investment, you just pay a monthly usage fee for a defined period according to your user agreement.

Your part of the income from the sales of Neocortex Digital services to your patients will cover the usage fee and yield a net profit in your favor.

You shall sign a standard contract with the company that owns the device, pay a constant rate monthly fee, and meet the terms and conditions if you cancel your relationship with Neocortex Digital before the end of your user agreement.

How does the user agreement work? How much money do I need upfront to secure the device?

Neocortex Digital will sell the device to a company that, in turn, will enter into a defined period user agreement with you. The user agreement will be established for 5 years with a constant monthly usage fee from the beginning to the end of that time period. There are no other payments prior to the initiation, during usage time, or at the expiration of that agreement.

Once the agreement has expired, your Neocortex Digital device will be exchanged for a brand new one containing the latest technological advances under a new user agreement for a period of another 5 years.

Do I need to pay for transportation, installation, configuration, and maintenance of the device?

No. All such costs are covered by Neocortex Digital.

Do I need to pay for the initial training of my personnel?

No. All such costs are covered by Neocortex Digital.

How soon can I expect to start generating revenue from this device?

The Neocortex Digital device will be deployed only in those facilities that are able to generate profit for them from the very beginning. The profit for your practice results from subtracting the usage fee from the income share (i.e., your part of the sales price), and the expectation is that other operational numbers of your clinic will improve as a consequence of the Neocortex Digital device deployment.

Neocortex Digital and your local representative will need to evaluate how the device will be used, including the number of current patients that would benefit from the Neocortex Digital services. These services include a one-time session for screening, diagnoses, and monitoring, along with multiple sessions for training.

The profit for your practice results from subtracting the usage fee from your income share (i.e., your part of the sales price).

The expectation is that other operational numbers will improve as a consequence of the Neocortex Digital device deployment by acquiring more patients (for the added services), uncovering more needs (i.e., training for improvement, surgery, etc.), and reducing overall labor costs (since the Neocortex Digital device provides, along with its new added automated services, other automated services that are performed today involving higher personnel dedication). Even though these improved numbers are not generally taken into account in the deployment decision, they are an upshot of the device deployment.

Who will be marketing this device? (Clinic or Neocortex Digital?)

The marketing efforts for the device and its services are the responsibility of Neocortex Digital.

Once the device is deployed in your practice, its services are to be prescribed to the patient by you when this fits your own professional criteria.

Neocortex Digital will market these services and will provide you with the appropriate communication materials.

Who sells and who performs the Neocortex Digital services?

Conducting a Neocortex Digital service implies operational and clinical aspects. In the operational context, there are four aspects to the selling of Neocortex Digital services:

    1. Awareness: Neocortex Digital is responsible for raising awareness (whether prior to the patient visit and/or through communication materials at your practice).
    2. Prescription: You are responsible for prescribing the service that you need for better diagnoses, surgery preparation, or improvement of patient conditions.
    3. Execution: Once the patient is seated at the Neocortex Digital device, it is Neocortex Digital that executes in an automated manner and provides the service to the patient, stimulating his/her pertinent brain executive functions, taking accurate data, completing a certified diagnosis, and providing a meaningful report to you.
    4. Payment collection: As an additional function, the Neocortex Digital system deployed at your practice will include means for online collection of payment for services rendered.

Where do I go for technical and diagnostic questions?

Neocortex Digital supplies healthcare providers with a live link to its Clinical Center for clinical questions, e.g., associated with diagnoses, etc., and to its Technical Center for technical questions regarding the software or hardware of the device.

Where are the patient data stored?

US patient data along with data gathered at the Neocortex Digital device including the corresponding clinical evaluation and diagnoses are stored by Neocortex Digital in secure servers within the US, which are certified to the necessary standards.

In order for Neocortex Digital to complete its services, the patient is asked (only once at his/her first appointment) to provide explicit consent with Neocortex Digital to take, transmit and store his/her personal data. Those data, together with the data gathered at the Neocortex device when the patient receives a service, and with the corresponding evaluation and diagnoses are stored by Neocortex Digital in secure servers within the US, which are certified to the necessary standards.

Who has access to the data? Who “owns” the data?

The data of a patient is owned by the patient (or his/her guardian as applicable by law). Thus the patient always has the right to ask Neocortex Digital to modify or delete his/her personal data.

Neocortex Digital is a covered entity subject to the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules. Neocortex Digital treats patient data as highly confidential information and ensures that it is properly protected. Access to such data is granted only to Neocortex Digital authorized employees and only to those professionals outside Neocortex Digital that the patient has explicitly allowed Neocortex Digital to share such data.

When your patient enters into a contract agreement with Neocortex Digital so it can provide services to him/her through the device deployed at your facility, the patient is asked permission from Neocortex Digital to share with you his/her personal data and the outcome of the services.

In case the patient has explicitly allowed Neocortex Digital to share aggregated data (i.e., just the data without any patient identification information) with Research Institutions, Neocortex Digital may grant access to such Research Institutions the aggregated data for research purposes.

Neocortex Digital ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all electronically protected health information per HIPAA rules.

Who is responsible (liable) for the diagnoses and subsequent training?

Neocortex Digital is responsible for the quality, accuracy, pertinence, and validity of its own reports and diagnoses as well for the services provided with the patient through the Neocortex Digital device at your site whether for screening, diagnoses, training, or monitoring.

Neocortex Digital is neither responsible nor liable for the improvement level reached by a patient after training, as it varies with patient physiological responses.

Neocortex Digital is neither responsible nor liable for the use that the authorized healthcare providers at your clinic may make of the reports and diagnoses provided to them by Neocortex Digital, nor of their own decisions as independent healthcare providers.
